This 2006 film has long since become a popular one among German teachers, largely due to its PG rating. It is a Swiss film, which means there are some characters who speak in Swiss German, and many others are varying levels of accents, meaning many teachers opt to show this film with subtitles.

Julia Jenkins, who plays the mother, plays a native English speaker well. Her accent is appropriate to her character. She can be seen in the Netflix series Dark, where she plays Claudia in the 80s.

Bruno Ganz is the grandfather. More on this actor is available in the post on Der Himmel über Berlin.

The story brings in some possible talking points – the ambitions of parents and their effects on children being chief among them.
