Ich bin dann mal weg

This 2015 film is based on a book of the same title, written by the main character, Hape Kerkeling, who does not play himself in this particular film.

Devid Striesow plays Hape. We know him mostly from dramas and war films, such as Die Fälscher and Der Untergang, but he fits this role perfectly.

Martina Gedeck, playing Stella, is an interesting actress. She’s been cast in Das Tagebuch der Anne Frank, Jud Süß – Film ohne Gewissen, the 2009 version of Sisi, Der Baader Meinhof Komplex, Meine schöne Bescherung, and many many others.

Even Katharina Thalbach, who was introduced in the post on Friedrich, ein deutscher König, plays a fun role here.

This film has deep meaning and would be best used in classes ready to understand complex concepts in German. It could lead to many conversations regarding philosophy and religion, platonic relationships, or purposes for travel.

Some visual humor may be inappropriate for some viewers (nothing goes beyond a light PG-13, and even that is few and far between). The German rating is 0.
