This 2018 drama-comedy is a Netflix film centers around orthodox Jewish tradition and a young man’s decision to turn away from his family’s orthodox religious lifestyle.
Joel Basman is our main character. Born in Switzerland, this may be the first film I’ve seen him in! German-born Udo Samel may be more familiar – he was in La Pianiste (a film based on an Albert Schweitzer story), but also Mein bester Feind. Sunnyi Melles is a Swiss actress born in Luxembourg. Her parents were Hungarian and Austrian. She’s been in Baader-Meinhof Komplex, 1 1/2 Ritter, Buddenbrooks, and much much more. Many of the other cast members may seem familiar as well.
