Winterschläfer

Released in 1997, this film is rightly classified as a romantic drama.  The story focuses on a ski instructor and a translator, a car accident, and death.  This film is directed by Tom Tykwer, the director who brought us Lola rennt.  Unfortunately, that’s the best thing about this entire movie.  One could analyze importance of coincidence and choice into it, but the story line remains slow and simple and the characters remain relatively shallow and selfish.  I do like what the director added to it, but overall not a movie I need to see again.

I do like that the farmer speaks dialect, because he should.  The actor, Josef Bierbichler, is known for several films that allow him to use dialect in a logical and meaningful way.

There are scenes of nudity and sex, which would lead to an R rating in the U.S., were it to be rated.
