Who am I – kein System ist sicher

This 2014 drama-mystery is currently available on Netflix.

This film stars Tom Schilling, whom we’ve seen in a few posts already. Next to him is Elyas M’Barek, whom we also know quite well by now, I’m sure! We also already know Wotan Wilke Möhring. But who we might not be as aware of yet is a German-born Swiss actor by the name of Antoine Monot Jr. He may seem familiar, though. He was in Das Experiment, Lammbock, Lommbock, Almanya: Willkommen in Deutschland, and Männerherzen. He often has smaller roles, but certainly a familiar face in popular German films! Our female lead is Hannah Herzsprung. We may recognize her from Babylon Berlin, Ludwig II, Lila Lila, Wickie und die starken Männer, and even the Reader.

There’s some good use of modern internet/technology vocabulary throughout this film. Some of the conversation even translates some English-isms into more standard German. It connects with how technology affects our lives, even if used only as clips. There are moments of political connections, which may spark conversation, however it must be noted that these clips may not be appropriate for all viewers.

This film is not rated in the US, and is rated 12 and up in Germany. IMDB’s coverage of concerns is pretty thorough. There are a few brief views of a nude rear end about 5 minutes in. About 11 minutes in there is a party with excessive drug and alcohol use, another similar party happens 40 minutes in. About 27 minutes in there is a video playing that may be considered obscene to some viewers. Based on IMDB’s coverage and my own understanding of US ratings today, this film could possibly fall into the PG-13 category. However, the “F” word is said multiple times in English, which may push it to a light R.
