Was nützt die Liebe in Gedanken

  • by

This 2004 film featuring Daniel Brühl as Paul is based on the true story, the 1927 Steglitz student tragedy.

Daniel Brühl is a well-known German actor. Many may recognize him from such movies as Goodbye, Lenin, Woman in Gold, Inglorious Basterds, Joyeux Noel, and many others.

August Diehl, who plays Günther, is also well-known, even from Hollywood films. Among many other big-named films, he was in Inglorious Basterds, Salt, die Fälscher, and der Neunte Tag.

There are scenes of sexual content, including an explicit sex scene. This film both implicitly and explicitly discusses sexuality and the question of homo- and bisexuality. It may be interesting to use in relation to the history of LGBTQ, but it may be more suitable for the university level. Other than the sexual content, the premise of the film (basically a suicide pact) may be too much for high school students in many communities today.
