This 2009 film is an interesting suspense/mystery.  We hear the difference in the ways of speech between generations, which is in itself an intriguing study.  The older the generation, the more likely they are to use dialect. The younger, the more Hoch Deutsch they attempt.

We meet our main character, Kathrin, after her mother dies.  We learn that she hadn’t seen her mother in a long time because an entire family had been murdered in her village and she didn’t want her daughter to experience any of the danger there now. Kathrin finds out much about herself in her time there as she goes to bury her mother.  Suspense is built adequately for enjoyment by those who wish to think a little while watching films.

This is one of two films that Monica Bleibtreu was in released after her death.  Her son Moritz Bleitreu continues her legacy in German film.

Trigger Warning: There is a rape scene within the movie. Nothing can be seen, but it may be disturbing to some viewers. Besides this scene, there is nothing overly questionable in this movie and it would probably be labeled PG-13 in the US.
