Mein Führer

This 2007 is a drama comedy of WWII and is currently available on Netflix. The premise pulls a Jewish acting professor from a concentration camp in order to help Hitler’s image in the later years. (Taking place in 1944, this film gives an interesting backstory to his failing health and diminishing mental/emotional abilities.)

Perhaps the most recognizable name of of the cast is Ulrich Mühe. This was one of his final films before his death. Previous posts including him have been Das Leben der Anderen and Amen.

Goebbels is played by Sylvester Groth, who can also be found in Deutschland 83, Deutschland 86, Deutschland 89, Inglorious Basterds (also as Goebbels, interestingly enough), and Buddenbrooks among many many other roles.

This film is one of quite a few German satire films of WWII now, but was one of the early ones. If historic satire is your thing, you may enjoy this one. The actors did good work in mimicking the linguistic tendencies and accents of their roles.

About 5 minutes in, there is nudity in the form of a shower scene in a concentration camp. There is a very brief moment of sexual nudity 35 minutes in. At 43 minutes, there’s an implied sexual act (though nothing is explicit here). At 1 hour 11 minutes, there’s a sexual scene which is more awkward than explicit.
