Lissi und der wilde Kaiser

  • by

This 2007 animated film is an adaptation of skits originally found in Bully Parade years earlier.  It is a parody of Sissi stories for those who understand the popularity of Kaiserin Elisabeth and the stories told of her.

The humor is similar to that in Shrek – appropriate for children, but enjoyable for adults.  Most of it is enjoyable whether or not you know the story of Sissi, but may be more so if one knows the cultural connections between Austria and Bavaria at the very least.

The humour stays at a PG to PG-13 level. There is one scene where my students sometimes go “ummmm” to, in which there is a silly dance involved, and first-time viewers may not know how far it’s going to go, but it’s interrupted by a kidnapping before it causes any scenes.
