Liebe Mauer

  • by

Released in 2009, this movie is set in 1989 along the East/West Berlin border. We meet Franzi as she moves into an apartment right next to a crossing.  She lives in the West and crosses over the border for cheaper groceries when her neighbors give her that tip.

Franzi learns about several of the differences between living in the East versus living in the West.  She learns how free she has been living.  We can hear the dialect differences, which is another interesting study.

We watch as the opinions on each side towards freedom and ways of life change and how the Stasi attempts to use that.  The story ends as the wall falls.

There is a possible quick flash of partial nudity, easy to edit if it’s a concern.  Franzi’s double hears the doorbell and runs into the bathroom to avoid seeing her aunt. She undresses in the bathroom and quickly jumps into the shower (where she is covered).  There is also a short sex scene, easy to edit/skip, which takes place after Saschi tells Franzi that the Stasi is blackmailing him.

This film is incredibly educational and worth the efforts to edit appropriately!
