Lebenszeichen

Released in 1968, this Werner Herzog film is a drama done in the form of a documentary, and was his first feature film.

As mentioned in the post on Woyzeck, Wolfgang Reichmann joins us again in this film, playing an important role next to the main character. He adds intrigue and ideas to an otherwise slow-moving plot.

Interestingly, this film is based on a story from 1818 called “Der tolle Invalide auf dem Fort Ratonneau” by Achim von Arnim.

This film would be an interesting piece to a film history course, or even used in a history discussion on the island of Kos. There is also a tiny piece where they are translating archeological pieces where they correct themselves based on cases – a very tiny little German education connection!
