Known as HipHop Express in the American market, this 2010 film is basically a mixture of Step Up and 8 Mile, but in a PG version. Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht plays the main character, a boy who grew up rich and wants to be a rapper, so much so that he leaves home and pretends to be homeless for a little while to get some street cred… and of course he swoops in on the love interest of the boss dude and everyone finds out who he really is.
Jimi Blue’s parents are both German actors. He even has his own website… This is the second movie I’ve seen him in, and just like the other, it embarrassed me a little that I’ve seen it. But it’s not so bad for the students, and it has a nice “be friends with everyone, regardless of their past” message at the end. My students have a great time with it, mostly to laugh at all the cheese.
