Ebbie’s Bluff

Another one of Til Schweiger’s early films, the beginning of this 1993 film might be interesting for boxing fans. Beyond that, however, we find a man looking for a new direction in life, seeing himself as a German Elvis… It is relatively random from this point on, a bit stereotypical for a low-budget film. (If you like the beginning of this film, check out Til Schweiger’s Joe and Max!)

While most of the cast are not big name actors, another name does stand out – Heiner Lauterbach. He’s still working on new projects today. Probably his most interesting recent film for German teachers is Willkommen bei den Hartmanns, in which he plays Dr. Hartmann. You can also find him in Weihnachtsmänner, Stalingrad, Der blinde Fleck, Zweiohrküken, and the voice of Dennis in Das Experiment.

While most of this film is quite harmless, there is some topless dancing nearly an hour in. Not that I’d necessarily recommend this for the classroom anyway… it’s just weird and doesn’t seem to have any potential for education, beyond perhaps an odd side-step in film history. Good ending, though!
