Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei

  • by

This 2004 film is known in America by it’s English title, The Edukators.  Young activists come together and perform interesting crimes against rich businessmen…

Daniel Brühl, Julie Jentsch, and Stipe Erceg play our main characters.  Erceg is an interesting actor. He was born in Croatia and moved to Germany with his parents when he was only 4.  He’s been acting regularly since 2001, often with several movies released each year. Jentsch still acts in a wide variety of films and TV shows, but 2004 was quite the year for popular films for her – she was also in Der Untergang. Brühl’s popular list can be found in the write-up of Was nützt die Liebe in Gedanken.

The best thing about this film is the casting. The actors chosen give so much more depth than the plot really offers.  The filming style is not really my favorite, but it is forgivable in the casual light of the story.

This film is rated R in the U.S. for brief nudity, a sex scene, and language.  The nudity and sex scene are very quick scenes that don’t have much warning, so they would be difficult to edit out or skip.  The language in the original German is not as bad as the translation.
