Der Untergang

This 2004 film starring Bruno Ganz shows the final days of Hitler as reported by his last secretary. It is important to remember the 1955 film, Der letzte Akt, which also used Traudl Junge as a source for these final days. This film keeps that memory fresh for a new generation. Be sure to continue watching at the end of the movie. There is information regarding the fates of the men and women portrayed in this film, as well as another clip of an interview with Junge.

Der Untergang’s Traudl Junge may look very familiar today. She is played by Alexandria Maria Lara, who plays a main role in Amazon’s You are Wanted. She’s also been in The Reader, Der Tunnel, and Der Baader Meinhof Komplex. Lara had an interesting start in life. Born in Romania, her family fled to Germany when she was very young. They had planned to continue on to Canada, but remained in Germany.

We also have popular actors we’ve previously mentioned in other posts, such as Ulrich Matthes, Heino Ferch, Juliane Köhler, Christian Berkel, Matthias Habich, Thomas Kretschmann, Michael Mendl, and Ulrich Noethen. Quite the A list cast!

This film is rated R for strong violence, disturbing images, and some nudity. This is detailed well in IMDB. The nudity is very brief and can relatively easily be skipped.
