Der Nanny

  • by

Starring Matthias Schweighöfer (who also served as co-director), this 2015 film is a comedy featuring humour reminiscent of the original Home Alone movie.

Matthias Schweighöfer is a favourite actor of many of my current students. He is a prolific actor and musician. He is the main character in the Amazon Prime show You are Wanted, shows up in Bibi und Tina voll verhext, main character in der Rote Baron, and a friend in Keinohrhasen and its sequel Zweiohrküken just to name a few. He’s even bridged into Hollywood with Valkyrie.

Milan Peschel, who plays the nanny, also takes part in other movies useful for the German classroom – Bibi und Tina voll verhext and Die Abenteuer von Huck Finn, for example.

This film includes some intriguing talking points of ethics, morals, progress, and economics. The comical backdrop for these themes could make them more approachable for students.

There is a drug-induced sex scene about 40 minutes into the film. While it is comical and there is no nudity shown, it would be considered inappropriate for most high school classrooms. This film is not rated in the U.S., but stays in the PG-13 level (likely including the sex scene). It may be worth editing or skipping (as necessary) to use this film in an educational setting.
