Das weiße Band

This 2009 historical drama features Christian Friedel and a village full of people who all seem to know something more than any outsider. It leads us down a path of suspenseful mystery and we untangle disturbing events up north. It found its way into the label of instant classic, bringing back much of the styling of much older German films.

This was Christian Friedel’s first big credit as an actor. More recently he can be found in Babylon Berlin. He can also be found in the Indy music scene in the group Woods of Birnam. They are available on Spotify, but (as far as I have come across) they sing exclusively in English.

More famous faces are Ulrich Tukur and Burghart Klaußner, both of whom can be found in other posts here. Indeed, several roles are played by actors who’ve taken part in Babylon Berlin or even other films noted in this blog (from Lore all the way back to Herz aus Glas!).

This film is rated R in the U.S. for disturbing content in both violence and sexuality). Details of these disturbing images can be found at IMDB (there are some spoilers involved).
