Coming In

This 1997 film with Franka Potente is the story of a gay man who begins questioning his sexuality.

Stefan Wink plays the Assistent/partner Lorenz. His career began in the early 1990s. He followed this film with Bin ich schön?, then continued his career with Barfuss, Berlin Station, and many other roles.

The “other woman” (we need a better term for this – shall we call her an “accidental lover” or “heterosexual experiment” or something completely different?) is played by Franka Potente. Of course, most people recognize her from something and a few of her films have already been reviewed here. Some other popular films of hers include: Between Worlds, Blow, Anatomie (both films), Der Krieger und die Kaiserin, and Nach Fünf im Urwald.

Another famous cast member is Sebastian Rudolph. We’ve recently seen him in Dark.

Even Sven Thiemann joins this cast. I know him best from a long recurring role on Marienhof.

Some terms generally accepted as homosexual hate speech are used throughout this film in an effort to show the various degrees of prejudice faced by the group. Although some sexual situation present themselves, no sex scenes show on screen. There is very brief nudity about 32 minutes in after the ex-husband walks in. Another flash of nudity happens at 41 minutes in. A drawing of a nude male stick figure is the topic of discussion at 46 minutes. This image returns around one hour 20 minutes. A man is seen from the back at 51 minutes in (after he walks out covering himself).
