This 2003 film featuring Franka Potente as two main characters, Iris and Siri, centers around the ethical questions of human cloning. With that, it is an intriguing option for an AP level or AP prep class, as well as college courses.

Ethical questions of cloning are not only implied in this film, but rather explicitly argued from multiple perspectives, which can lead into some deep discussions in the classroom as well.

I’m sure we all know and love Franka Potente, at least since her depiction of Lola in Lola rennt. She has, of course, also crossed over to Hollywood film as well as American TV, so our students are likely to know some of her work.

This film is not rated in the U.S., but holds a 12 and up rating in Germany. There is one scene which may need to be skipped in the classroom (Siri attempts to sleep with her mother’s boyfriend), but the rest of the film stays solidly in the PG-13 level. (It’s similar to the PG-13 of Dark Kingdom and Joyeux Noël, actually.)
