Bin ich schön?

  • by

This 1998 film is labeled as a comedy/drama. We start in Spain.  We don’t really know the characters’ stories, though we slowly learn pieces as we go.  The characters all simply want to feel beautiful.  We see what they are trying to do in order to feel this way.  We see how upset they are as they use sex to feel beautiful, as they starve themselves, as they chase after past loves, as they lie to everyone they meet.  In reality, it’s a good message – be yourself to find the people who make you feel beautiful.  We watch how the characters’ lives touch each other’s, as family, friends, lovers, or random strangers.

Several big-name actors can be seen in Bin ich schön? – Franke Potente, Joachim Król, Nina Petri, Uwe Ochsenknecht, Maria Schrader, and Gottfried John can all be found in many popular German films. Gottfried John is no longer with us, but the others remain active with their talents.

Bin ich schön? is a good movie for those not offended by nudity or sexuality who can enjoy a comedy situation as it arises. While not rated in the U.S., it would easily earn an R rating due to the many scenes of nudity and sexuality.
